A talisman of perspective and the great equaliser.

The tradition of Memento Mori—Latin for "Remember you must die"—reached its aesthetic peak in the 16th and 17th centuries. These may seem like morbid curiosities, but they were worn as high-integrity devotional tools designed to pull the wearer back to the present.

Historically, these rings served as a social leveller, a reminder that regardless of status, or wealth, we all share the same destiny, as at the end of life comes death. From the Stoic philosophers of Rome to the intricate funeral woodcuts of the Renaissance, the skull was used to strip away the non-essential, prompting the wearer to live with urgency and intent. By wearing mortality on the hand, the seeker is reminded to anchor into the present moment.

I hand-carved this design at the bench with early European memento mori jewellery in mind, opting for the symbolic jawless, rounded skull common in this style.

By wearing death on the finger, the wearer is encouraged to "Know Thyself" and to navigate life with a clear-eyed sense of presence.

This talisman exists to ground you in the now: a reminder that the present is all that you truly have.
